Adoption FAQs
What pets are available for adoption?
All available pets listed on the website are available for adoption by Meet & Greet requests. Once the quota for requests has been reached (typically 3), the individual pet will be removed from the website. Follow us on Instagram to see transport/intake announcements. All of our fosters have priority in adoption as well as deciding which home they feel is the most ideal scenario for our pets through Meet & Greet interviews.
How can I see pictures of the puppies available?
You can view all pets on our website, as well as transport/intake preview photos on our Instagram, where we will announce available pet postings (which may be on our website as early as 6:00AM!) to see available pets and request a Meet & Greet. If the pet is no longer available for adoption, the pet will be removed from the website.
What is required for me to adopt?
All pets in the current home must be up to date on vaccinations and spay/neutered
Adopters must submit proof of visit with a veterinarian within 14 days of adoption
If puppy is under 4 months of age, you must be in a situation where the puppy is not left unattended for >5 hours at a time
How much is the adoption fee?
The current adoption fee for puppies (under 2 years old) is $525. For adult dogs (over 2 years old), the fee is $485. The adoption fee for cats/kittens is $225.
Adoption fees help us provide advanced medical care, including fecal exams and parvo tests (>$100 value) for each puppy upon entry to the organization.
All dogs over 6 months of age are heartworm tested in addition to heartworm screening by reference labs to increase testing reliability and accuracy, reduce potential “false negatives” due to immune complex formations, and aid in knowing heartworm status to determine best course of treatment.
All dogs >5 years of age have fecal exams, giardia tests, and baseline bloodwork (body & organ function screen).
Adoption fees are payable by credit card only.
This fee covers:
Innovative, state of the art pediatric spay & neuter procedures
Advanced vaccinations with breakthrough Recombitek technology
Microchip with automatic registration and lifetime membership
Deworming, flea/tick control, heartworm prevention
Post-adoption Insurance (30 days) upon activation
This fee is not meant to cover a per-pet basis, but to cover the costs of all overhead expenses required to rescue these pets. This includes transport, personal protective equipment, employee expenses, medical expenses for critical care pets, food, and all foster supplies provided while in foster care - including our foster program in Mississippi (WTAR South). It also includes WTAR exclusive 30-days of accidental/incidental health insurance for your new pet; effective starting midnight the day of adoption upon activation by the adopter.
Do you require home visits?
No. Potential adopters are screened by their application, interviews by the foster, and the requirement of a Veterinary visit within 14 days. If you do not submit proof of a veterinary health visit within 14 days of adoption, your ownership of the animal is forfeited back to Wolf Trap Animal Rescue.
